Top 3 Root Causes of Headaches, Neck Pain and Jaw Pain

Tense, stiff, achy…. feels like there is a saran wrap constantly stifling my neck, my back or my head. Rest, ice packs, heat, stretching, pain pills, injections and surgery can help remedy symptoms but sooner or later, the symptoms will come back if you do not address the “WHY it hurts”.

  1. Tension, stiffness, achiness… are ways your body is talking to you. It is a language of postural  imbalance which is the first of the underlying causes. There are parts of our body which are often overused or underused. We wrongly position our body parts or bones that our muscles compensate or cannot function the way they are designed and thus, pain ensues.
  2. Another cause is the habits we have developed over time. Habits have become deeply embedded in our brain that they are felt as normal in our lives.  Clenching, mouth breathing, grinding teeth or chewing your lips are common habits and are very hard to break. If you want to change a habit, you have to give the body a new one to adopt for change to happen.
  3. Stress is a part of life.  Oftentimes, stress is so deeply ingrained in the body that you no longer recognize the signals. We attribute stress as worry, fear and negative thoughts or experiences and when we don’t feel that way, we don’t think we are stressed. Stress can be in the body manifesting as pain, spasms, stiffness, anxiety, gut issues and most commonly experienced by grinding or clenching our teeth.

Seville PT works on these 3 root causes with a strong approach in postural re-education, mind-body and body-mind techniques to change habits and groundbreaking breathwork methods  to modulate, manage and regulate stress.
